TLii | INDONESIAN | ACEH | CENTRAL ACEH | Takengon – The Class III Non-TPI Immigration Office in Takengon has apprehended three French nationals in Blangkejeren, Gayo Lues Regency, for allegedly violating immigration regulations. The arrests were made during the Jagratara Operation, a nationwide crackdown on foreigners, which took place on October 7, 2024.

The operation, which is part of a broader directive from the Director General of Immigration, was aimed at preventing immigration violations and maintaining national security. The Takengon Immigration Office received reports from the public alleging that several foreign nationals were participating in local political campaigns, a violation of their tourist visa conditions.

The team from the Intelligence and Enforcement Division (Inteldakim) conducted inspections across Blangkejeren, focusing on foreigners involved in activities that could jeopardize public order. By the end of the day, three French nationals were detained in a hotel.

Details of the Detained Individuals:

1. MB, a 35-year-old Frenchman, was found attending a political declaration event in support of a local candidate for the Gayo Lues regional elections.

2. BAJP, 75, also a French citizen, was similarly involved in political activities.

3. YB, 33, had overstayed his visa by 10 days and was also participating in political campaign activities.

Legal Violations:

The Immigration Office revealed that all three foreigners had violated Article 122(a) of Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration for misuse of their stay permits. In addition, YB was found to have overstayed his visa by 10 days, violating Article 78 of the same law.

Consequences:

All three individuals will be deported and blacklisted from re-entering Indonesia. This measure is in line with Article 75 of the Immigration Law, which grants immigration authorities the power to take administrative actions against foreigners deemed a threat to public order and security.

The Jagratara Operation is part of a larger effort by the Directorate General of Immigration to monitor the activities of foreign nationals throughout Indonesia, particularly in regions with heightened political activity. The Takengon Immigration Office has emphasized its commitment to enforcing immigration laws and ensuring that all foreigners residing in its jurisdiction comply with their visa requirements.

The Class III Non-TPI Immigration Office in Takengon also stated that similar operations will continue to be conducted periodically in various strategic areas. The aim is to ensure that the presence of foreign nationals in Indonesia remains monitored and compliant with the applicable regulations, and to prevent potential visa violations that could threaten national stability and security.

This operation is also expected to serve as a deterrent to other foreign nationals to be more cautious and adhere to the rules while in Indonesia. Immigration authorities urge the public to actively report any suspected violations by foreign nationals through the provided complaint services, so that supervision and law enforcement can be carried out effectively.

In addition, the Takengon Immigration Office is committed to continuously improving the quality of services and supervision of foreign nationals, ensuring that their presence in Indonesia does not lead to legal issues or disturbances to public order.

With strict law enforcement, it is hoped that the security and stability in areas like Gayo Lues Regency can be well-maintained, especially ahead of the upcoming regional elections, where public order and security are top priorities for both the local community and the government.
